Ripley's Believe It Or Not
![]()
Ripley's modern-day version of the 16th century Cabinet of Curiosities is arriving at the Trocadero, Piccadilly Circus on August 20th. I'm not so keen on seeing the two-headed calves and other unfortunates, but I will be trundling along to see the 15ft by 10ft image of Ray Charles (made of post-it notes), and a sculpture by Mexican Enrique Ramos showing various Royal scenes as portrayed by ants with painted faces. He apparently paints with a single haired brush, while wearing trifocals. The entrance fee will unfortunately help to preserve London's reputation as an expensive city - £17.95 for adults, and £13.95 for children.
Fortean Times UnConvention
![]() For those who don't know this great publication, the Fortean Times has been around since 1973 and it's carrying on the work of Charles Fort (1874-1932). Charles was sceptical of scientific beliefs and looked at the world with an open and enquiring mind - and the X-files would probably not have been the programme it was without him. This year's Uncon with talks, performances, workshops, exhibits, stalls and screenings is being held at Westminster College, Regent Street, London on 1st and 2nd November. Ok - you're Vaissac in the south of France and you're homesick for Paris - where do you turn? Gerard Brion has created a miniature version of the city of light in his back garden his "Petit Paris". He's spent 15 years on the project, using rubbish from his flower beds to create a spectacular yet quirky version of the French capital.
